Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 1, 2025

1. Introduction

BrightWave Technology LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates TeacherDesk, an AI-powered teaching assistant platform for K–12 educators. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use our Service at teacherdesk.net.

We are committed to protecting the privacy of educators, school staff, and the schools we serve. We comply with applicable federal and state privacy laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

2. Information We Collect

Account Information: When a school subscribes, we collect the name, email address, school name, and billing information of the account administrator.

Teacher Account Data: We collect usernames and encrypted passwords for teacher accounts created within the platform.

Usage Data: We log tool usage activity (e.g., which AI tools are used, timestamps, IP addresses) for security auditing and platform improvement purposes.

Content You Submit: Text you enter into TeacherDesk tools (e.g., lesson prompts, translation requests) is processed to generate AI responses. We do not store this content beyond the active session unless explicitly noted.

Payment Information: Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers on our servers.

3. How We Use Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Student Data

TeacherDesk is designed for use by educators, not students. Teachers should not enter student personally identifiable information (PII) into the platform. We do not knowingly collect data from students under 18. If you believe student PII has been submitted, contact us immediately at support@teacherdesk.net.

To the extent any student data is incidentally processed through educator use, such data is subject to FERPA protections and is used solely to provide the contracted service.

5. FERPA Compliance

When schools use TeacherDesk, BrightWave Technology LLC acts as a "school official" under FERPA with a legitimate educational interest in the data necessary to perform the service. We do not disclose education records to third parties except as permitted by FERPA or required by law.

6. Data Sharing

We may share information with trusted service providers who assist us in operating the platform, including:

All service providers are contractually bound to use data only as necessary to provide their services.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted passwords (bcrypt), HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, rate limiting, server-level firewalls, and audit logging. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

8. Data Retention

We retain account data for the duration of your active subscription plus 90 days after cancellation, after which it is deleted. Usage logs are retained for up to 12 months for security purposes.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@teacherdesk.net. We will respond within 30 days.

10. Cookies

TeacherDesk uses session-based authentication tokens stored in your browser. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

11. Children's Privacy

TeacherDesk is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify school administrators of material changes via email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
